FROM THE WEATHER NETWORK [TO STAR CHOICE CUSTOMERS]
Star Choice intends to move The Weather Network (TWN) from the basic tier to the "Your Life" bundle.
You will be charged the same cost for basic service, despite the loss of this vital service.
Approximately 600,000 Star Choice subscribers will lose this vital service without any advanced warning, explanation or consultation.
Subscribers who wish to keep TWN will have to subscribe to the "Your Life" bundle at an extra cost of $6.99 per month plus taxes.
We consider this proposed move unacceptable.
That is why we will take every action possible to prevent this arbitrary repackaging.
We have made some progress. On Monday June 7th, we sought an injunction from the Ontario Superior Court, which has temporarily delayed Star Choice from removing TWN from the basic tier until June 16th.
We encourage you to contact Star Choice at 1 888 554 STAR (7827) to voice your concern about this change and to tell them that you want to keep TWN on the basic tier. |

Coming to a cell phone near you: mobile karaoke
Have you ever had the urge to beltout a tune but, alas,
there were no karaoke bars in sight? In what may be
classified as American Idol judge Simon Cowell's worst
nightmare, Sharp Corp. and Toshiba Corp. have co¬
developed a new mobile handset that moonlights as a portable karaoke machine. The phones, which will go on
sale in Japan this summer, are karaoke-enabled through a
new service. from Vodaphone K.K. called V-kara. Through
the service, users can download Karaoke files. The phones
can also connect to television sets to create a more
"home karaoke machine" experience. Pricing has not
been released, however users can expect to pay roughly
US$0.35 per downloaded song. Quirky fact: In 2002 there
were approximately 477,000 licensed karaoke machines
in bars, hotels and karaoke rooms across Japan, which
attracted an estimated 48 million customers.

I just got my phone bill from Bell's web site. What useless bastards. There's a bunch of long distance, because we called Guelph a lot last month, it was expected right. But there are two calls after 6pm which are discounted because of Bell's first rate savings. So instead of paying $0.58 for those two calls, I have to pay $4.95 for those two calls. It says on the bill savings of $0.58. It should really say savings of ($4.37). Stupid phone company.

Do you not pay the $4.95 every month anyways even if you don't use the long distance? If what you say is true phone Bell and complain but in a nice way. They will adjust it. I used to do that when I worked there for all of six weeks. Since they are not a monopoly anymore they have become better at the customer service end of the business. |

Brianne got in! This morning she checked her admission status on the web advisor and her status had changed from "Application on Hold" which was highly confusing, to "Admitted". Good stuff. Getting in is a hell of a stressful ride, even one lady at work was happy to hear that Brianne was in so that she could stop stressin'. The best part is that all of our plans have come together quite nicely. We're moving to Guelph and our house isn't that far from the school (a single bus trip down Stone Rd. should do it) and the bus pass is included with tuition. Plus we're really close to tons of stores and a few companies where she can apply for some work. I was talking to a guy at work today and he was saying that we've got connections at Guelph University and they actually employ people to do research and stuff, so there's lots of options out there. So exciting! |

Finally got those new IP addresses. The move went really smoothly too. So happy a tech guy. :) Mom and Dad took us out for dinner last night to celebrate Brianne's Bday. We ate some Chinese at Summit Garden. Always a good meal there. Their sweet and sour soup is tremendous.
I hear some serious thunder outside right now. It best not be knockin' out my power this time. I really have to get on that electrician mission. So busy a tech guy. :( |

Happy Birthday to Brianne today! It's been a busy one. We went out for a celebratory lunch, then it was back to the office for me for a boring staff meeting. Then we came home and went to the barn.
Brianne's got a cough so neither one of us have been sleeping all that well, it makes for a tired us. Took the dog to the barn in lue of going to the gym this evening. We walked around aimlessly with Walker. I got pretty eaten by mosquitos. While we were walking a rabbit jumped out of it's hole right in front of me, pretty cool. Fortunately for it, neither dog noticed.
That reminds me, the other day we saw a pair of deer with their "baby". I would guess about 3-4 months old, hopping after them across the street.
Anyway, so I started to do my barn chores and I noticed my neck was aching. It feels really stiff, and aches when I try to lift something (such as hay bales or closing a door). I mentioned it to Janna at the barn and she was saying it's like black flies or something, her son TJ keeps getting bit. It still aching now, going to sleep it off. Googled for some answers and I found that I've either got west nile virus or a tick. I think I've got a new motto for Google; "Google, a hypochondriac's best friend."

My legs sting. I just got out of the shower and they're a burning. I suppose it could have been any plant life that caused this too. Technically I suppose I'm allergic to all of those grasses I was walking through yesterday. So far (I've only been up for 20 minutes) my neck hurts less. I have more range of motion. Neck, neck, don't hurt today, be painless for I'm not gay. |

In shorts? Poison ivy perhaps?
I remember one canoe trip where I wore shorts on a long portage. There were raspberry brambles across the path and lots of deer flies. With a heavy pack and canoe-head you don't have much choice about where you walk or what you walk through. |

Dear Experts
How can I stop stupid felines from chewing on my ivy? I've tried hanging mouse traps from the leaves but that only protected some of the plant. Then I tried pouring carbolic acid over the plant, but that did more dammage than good to the plant. Also it made holes in the table. I'm thinking the next route that I'm going to take is to plant miniature explosives in the dirt around the edge of the pot. Is that what you'd do? I've also been exploring storing the cats in containment cells when they're not in use. They don't seem to mind, so I think I'll stick with that unless you can come up with a better solution.

And with that, we are getting a house! With what you ask? I'll tell you. Brianne and I have been looking to get our very own home in Guelph. Everyone had been saying "get a mortgage pre-approval done so you know what you can afford". It made sense to me, so I filled out all of the forms on ING Direct's web site. They ask everything of you, make sure they're allowed to check your credit record, and ta-da, they give you a magic number the next day telling you how much house you can afford. It was almost too easy. In fact, it was too easy. It wasn't until we had shopped for a new house and put in an offer on said new house did we find out that our pre-approved mortage was a completely bogus piece of paper. We weren't "locked in" at the rate that that piece of paper said, our credit was never checked at all, so really the amount of home and the rate were nothing like what we could afford. This week has been a nightmare of scrambling to jump through a new hoop every day, a very stressfull process if I do say so myself. With the help of my parents and a mortgage broker we got word today that our mortgage has been accepted and we are getting this house! Very wonderful news indeed. We get the place on Friday July 30th. As you can imagine, this has been a very tiring week and this weekend is going to be a wonderfull weekend of relaxation... and packing.
